Calorie Tracker - Mobile App

This was a project that I worked on as a freelance Product Designer. My challenge was to create a concept for an MVP version of a food tracking mobile application without having a well-elaborated Product Requirements Document (PRD). The idea was to create a unique calorie tracker that addresses all imperfections of the existing popular apps: for instance, some of them required users to take extra steps to log new food items, while others featured innovative widgets or gamification elements but suffered from poor design and lacked user-friendliness.
Timeline
From explorations to the MVP version of the app in 4 weeks as a solo designer.
This category details the step-by-step approach taken during the project, including research, planning, design, development, testing, and optimization phases.
Research & Planning
Conducted market research to identify existing challenges and user preferences. Had a few meetings with a startup team trying to define the key features that needed to be designed for the MVP version.

Design & Prototyping
Started sketching some ideas, creating user journeys and low-fidelity iterations. The first round of explorations helped the team get a clearer idea of the product. The focus was on the data display so I kept iterating in low and mid fidelity.

High-Fidelity & Handoff
Upon receiving a positive feedback from the team, I established basic design guidelines specifying the colour palette, font family, padding, and corner radius. After that, I built a design system with some high-fidelity components, created mockups with key screens: Diary, Progress, Profile, and storyboards.
Development & Implementation
This part is still pending.
The scope of work for the MVP version of the app was reduced to the creation of the key screens containing basic information for the user.
Basic data display
The Diary contains data about the user's daily calorie intake, specific meals, and macros.
Gamification
The Progress screen shows what have been achieved depending on user's goals. There are some gamification elements to enhance user's motivation to interact with the app. For instance, the Days Streak indicates how regularly with which the user tracks their calories.
Personalization
The My Profile section allows users to see their current weight, set goals and plans.
